About this program

  1. This exchange program is the 2026 Shih Chien University field-based course, “Academy at Sea: One Ship, Two Cities.” It integrates language learning, an introduction to the cruise industry, port-city field tasks, and intercultural exchange. Prior to departure, participants will complete preparatory sessions at the Taipei campus, including an overview of the cruise industry, cruise-related professional English, and scenario-based practice in Western dining etiquette. After embarkation, students will attend onboard thematic sessions (subject to the ship operator’s availability and safety regulations) to gain an understanding of operational workflows and cross-department collaboration. During port calls in Busan and Fukuoka, students will conduct task-based field walks, observation, and short interviews to compare port-city contexts and apply English, Japanese, and Korean conversations in real situations. The course concludes with a final presentation in which students propose improvements and innovative ideas related to shore excursions, port-city experiences, or guest services, thereby strengthening professional application, problem-solving, teamwork, and intercultural communication skills, and broadening global perspectives.
  2. Please follow the instructions of the faculty leader(s) and remain with the group at all times (group entry and group exit).
  3. This is an intensive course. Participants are required to take part in all Academy at Sea field-learning activities and attend the pre-departure sessions and the final project presentation.

Important Notes

  1. This program is conducted as a group-based field-learning activity. Except for designated cultural exploration/free-time periods, all classes, onboard visits, and shore excursions require full participation. Participants may not leave the group without permission, skip scheduled activities without valid reasons, or extend their stay/alter their return itinerary without prior approval.
  2. Once registration is confirmed, cruise tickets and cabin reservations will be issued and paid in full immediately. If a participant cancels after confirmation, cancellation charges for the cruise fare and any related reservations (including, where applicable, shore excursions, port taxes/fees, gratuities, and insurance) will be handled in accordance with the cruise line’s policies and any relevant supplier rules. Any remaining refundable amount (if applicable) will be processed in accordance with the “Standard Form Contract for Overseas Travel” announced by the Taiwan Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).
