Introducation

Welcome to Shih Chien University Language Center

The Language Center has three responsibilities:

  1. Teaching English to all non-English majors
  2. Managing the school’s language labs and facilities
  3. Providing various language learning activities

The Language Center offers the required Freshman English and Sophomore English courses. In order to help students meet grade requirements, the Center also provides online remedial instruction as well as tutoring services courtesy of our dedicated teachers.

    Daytime and Night Classes: 09:00~12:00/13:00~16:00

Freshman and Sophomore English

In compliance with the Ministry of Education’s assessment standards for students’ English ability, one of the main goals of the Center is to help students upgrade their English ability level to the point where they can pass the University English Proficiency Exam.

All students are required to take Freshman and Sophomore English.

This course is intended as a general four skills (namely, listening, speaking, reading, and writing) integrated English-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) course emphasizing English fluency in general contexts, i.e., English use for general purposes. Thereby, the course is designed to help students use their existing general knowledge about themselves and about the world along with the knowledge of the English language they have acquired to enhance their general English proficiency and enrich their personal background knowledge by using English to learn and communicate.

All students are placed into one of three levels (Higher Intermediate, Intermediate, and Basic) based on their scores from the Freshman English Proficiency exam. The different level courses are designed based on the ability of the students of that level, each with its own teaching goals and activities.
